Financial Independence (FIRE) Calculator
Calculate your FIRE number and how long it takes to reach financial independence.
How This Works
This uses the "25x rule" (equivalent to a 4% safe withdrawal rate): if your invested corpus is 25 times your annual expenses, withdrawing 4% per year is widely considered sustainable long-term. From there, it simulates monthly contributions compounding at your expected return until reaching that target.
Formula
Example
$40,000/year in expenses needs a $1,000,000 corpus. Starting from $50,000 and saving $1,000/month at 7% return gets there in a bit over 20 years.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do I need to retire on $40,000/year?
About $1,000,000 (25 times annual expenses, the 4% safe withdrawal rule).
Is the 4% rule guaranteed to work?
No โ it's a widely-cited historical guideline, not a guarantee. Market returns vary, and some people use more conservative withdrawal rates for added safety.
