Pet Age Calculator
Convert your dog's or cat's age into human years.
How This Works
The old "multiply by 7" rule is outdated. This uses the more accurate nonlinear model: a pet's first year of life is roughly equivalent to 15 human years, the second year adds about 9 more, and each year after that adds a smaller amount (about 5 for dogs, 4 for cats) โ reflecting how pets mature quickly early on and age more gradually afterward.
Formula
Example
A 5-year-old dog is about 15 + 9 + (3 × 5) = 39 human years. A 5-year-old cat is about 15 + 9 + (3 × 4) = 36 human years.
Frequently Asked Questions
How old is a 3-year-old dog in human years?
Approximately 29 human years.
Is the "multiply by 7" rule accurate?
No โ it's an oversimplification. Pets mature much faster in their first two years than the ร7 rule suggests, then age more slowly afterward.
